Meriden, CT (USA), April 5, 2016 — Radio Frequency Systems (RFS), a global wireless and broadcast infrastructure specialist, will spotlight its frequency-agile, polarization-agile, future-proof infrastructure solutions at NAB 2016. RFS’ exhibit will focus on products supporting North American broadcasters’ transition to new channels during the imminent DTV repack.  Evidence of the RFS equipment features extensively at the One World Trade landmark site in New York City and exclusively at one Cedar Hills transmission facility near Dallas Texas.

RFS’ new technical paper entitled, “RFS Prepares for the US DTV Repack – Are You Ready?” will be available in the booth. The paper addresses some of the challenges faced by broadcasters and RFS’ infrastructure solutions to help them prepare for the repack. In addition, Nick Wymant, RFS’ Chief Technology Officer, Broadcast, will speak about future-proof antenna systems at NAB 2016’s BEC - Transmitter and Tower Site Management session on Tuesday, April 19, 9:00-9:30 am (Room S228). Nick has many years’ experience in the digital switchover and repack projects.

RFS designs and manufactures a range of antennas including broadband panel arrays, pylon arrays, combiners and filters, RF switch frames, rigid transmission line components and flexible air-dielectric transmission lines.  With a worldwide customer base and 80 years of experience in the broadcast industry, RFS’ engineers are dedicated to total broadcast RF system design – from the output of the transmitter to the antenna.

Featured products at NAB 2016 will include:

PEP Lite antenna series for broadcast applications — RFS’ PEP Lite array has similar wind load characteristics to traditional pylon arrays but is both frequency-agile (covering the full UHF array) and polarization-agile, allowing two channels to operate in the array with different polarization ratios. These polarization ratios can also be changed in the future with no change required to the antenna system.

Band IV/V (UHF) PeakPower+TM bandpass filter — RFS designed its PeakPower+TM bandpass filter for global filtering applications associated with DTV television transmission. The new product is a 6-pole filter incorporating two cross couplings to meet all mask filtering requirements. It is very compact for easy integration into equipment and features very low insertion loss for its size. The filter is tunable over full UHF band (470-635MHz), and has adjustable bandwidth available for 6, 7 and 8 MHz channels for global applications.

SBB fully broadband side mounted pylon antennas — With full band performance and a range of industry standard radiation patterns, RFS’ SBB pylon antenna is ideally suited for use as a high performance main antenna, a backup antenna, or as a temporary antenna that can be used by one or more stations during the US DTV repack transition on both pre- and post-repack channels.

New 3dB coupler for UHF band transmitter and channel combining  – RFS recently introduced a new 3dB directional high-power coupler for use in the UHF TV band for transmitter and channel combining. The RFS DC618E-HP offers the lowest loss and highest power rating of any available coupler in its size and class. UHF transmitter manufacturers have eagerly anticipated this latest addition to RFS’ family of multi-stage couplers, which is expected to change the landscape for balanced combining applications. The new 3dB high-power coupler is made for use in balanced combiner applications or transmitter power combining. It is rated for 80kW at UHF frequencies 470-700MHz.

NAB 2016 will take place at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV, April 18-21, 2016. RFS will exhibit in Booth # C1727.
