RFS Simplifies Installation of OMNI FIT™ Connectors on CELLFLEX® Cables with New, Innovative Universal Trimming Tools

Hanover (Germany), March 7, 2012 — Radio Frequency Systems (RFS), the global wireless and broadcast infrastructure specialist, continues to make cable installations more efficient with the introduction of two new, innovative tools engineered to simplify the process and reduce the time required for installation of OMNI FITTM connectors on CELLFLEX® Cables.

Available in two sizes to accommodate small and large cables, the Universal Trimming Tool Series is engineered to efficiently prepare foam-dielectric coaxial cables for connector attachment. Each tool contains two preset cutting blades designed to efficiently trim the outer conductor and foam dielectric for proper connector installation, and identify the cable jacket cut back position. The integrated chamfer and flare station eliminates the need for individual tools for jacket trimming, deburring and proper flaring.

“These tools provide foolproof cable trimming and are very easy to handle,” said Gerhard Wunder, Product Manager. “All necessary cuts are preset in the tool, so there is no measuring required. And all cuts are predetermined to deliver high quality cable end preparation to meet required tolerances and deliver excellent electrical and mechanical values. This makes cable connector installation more efficient, eliminates the potential for error, and frees up precious installation time that can be used elsewhere.”

The small RFS Universal Trimming Tool is available for CELLFLEX cable sizes up to 7/8”, while the larger version covers cable sizes from 1-1/4” to 1-5/8”. Both tools can be converted to work with other RFS cables and sizes by changing the cutting inserts. In addition, both tools are backwards compatible with discontinued RFS connectors, thereby eliminating the need for installers to carry multiple cutting tools to an installation site.

“We have also future-proofed these tools for long term use,” said Gerhard Wunder. “The integrated inserts can be easily replaced with new versions to accommodate future connector improvements and generations. This makes the tools an indispensable component of an installer’s tool belt.”
