RFS Revolutionary Filter Tuning Software Tool Debuts to Rousing Reviews from International Broadcasters

RAI Amsterdam, September 19, 2012 — Simple, effective and complete broadcast filter tuning with automatic control was a hit at this year’s International Broadcast Convention (IBC) in RAI Amsterdam. The revolutionary approach to filter tuning pioneered by Radio Frequency Systems (RFS), the global wireless and broadcast infrastructure specialist, proved to be a welcome innovation to the leading minds and investors in electronic media and entertainment delivery who attended the show.

IBC is the premier, annual event for professionals engaged in the creation, management and delivery of entertainment and news content worldwide. It attracts more than 50,000 attendees from more than 160 countries each year to a conference and exhibition that showcases products from more than 1,300 of the world’s leading suppliers of electronic media technology.At this year’s event, RFS presented its advanced broadcast infrastructure solutions, state-of-the-art equipment, and turnkey services, which simplify broadcast network design, deployment and management and make broadcast network ownership more efficient and cost-effective. The highlight of the RFS booth was a demonstration of the new RFS Broadcast Computer Aided Tuning (BCAT) software tool.

“Filter tuning with current tools is cumbersome and time consuming,” said Hans-Peter Quade, Global Business Manager Broadcast. “Typically, the network analyzer setup is done manually to begin the tuning process and then a tuning expert must connect the product to complete the process. Unfortunately, this two stage approach can take up to a day to complete. The RFS BCAT software tool makes the process more efficient and reduces the amount of time required to successfully tune broadcast filters by eliminating the second stage.

With this tool, even a novice can fully tune a complex filter. The software allows anyone who can operate a computer and a network analyzer to tune RFS PeakPower+™ filters through to completion within a half hour. This dramatic reduction in tuning time reduces service costs, simplifies network management, and helps transmitter vendors quickly and easily respond to changing requirements.”

In addition to the BCAT software, the RFS booth showcased RFS PeakPower+ filters, which are engineered to support power ratings from 50 Watts to 10kW and are tunable across the UHF band and for 6, 7 or 8 MHz channels. Other products on display included the RFS combiner engineered for use with PeakPower+ filters, and HELIFLEX® air-dielectric coaxial transmission lines and related connectors.
