RFS Introduces New Variable Gain Tower Mounted Amplifiers for Low- and High-Band Applications

Meriden, CT (United States), July 27th, 2015 – Radio Frequency Systems (RFS), the global wireless and broadcast infrastructure specialist, today introduces new Tower Mounted Amplifiers (TMAs) with Variable Gain for 700MHz, PCS and all AWS frequencies. TMAs are very effective in increasing uplink performance for Voice-Over-LTE (VoLTE) service and enhancing system flexibility.

Tower Mounted Amplifiers are increasingly being deployed to overcome limitations of LTE. The LTE system takes advantage of the added uplink gain provided by a TMA, reducing overall interference. Tower Mounted Amplifiers can also increase data rates without reducing capacity.

RFS’ new TMAs feature DC sense and DC/AISG bypass and are ready for antennas with integrated AISG Bias-Ts. The bypass will allow operators to reduce the number of cables/jumpers on towers, lowering monthly leasing costs and minimizing connection points.

The new RFS units cover and allow for seamless transitions to new, expanded frequencies, including the unpaired AWS-3 (1695-1710) and AWS-4 (2180-2200) spectrums.  RFS’ new Variable Gain TMAs feature best-in-class PIM of 158dBc for improved network performance. Exceptionally small and lightweight, they reduce tower loading to decrease monthly leasing costs, ease zoning and installation, and lower overall installation costs.

Among the new Variable Gain TMAs being introduced is a 700MHz TMA for the upper C-Block, designed with a low noise figure that overcomes feeder losses. Dual-duplex configuration enables the use of a single feeder for both Tx and Rx. An automatic bypass feature enhances system reliability in case of DC power or LNA failure.

“As the telecom industry infrastructure requirements continue to change, system flexibility is essential for operators to meet demand,” said Andrzej Stanek, RFS’ Global Product Line Manager RF Filters. “The new Variable Gain TMAs will help provide that flexibility and meet the performance needs for successful implementation of new VoLTE services, increase capacity and reduce overall installation and leasing costs.”
