RFS’ innovation on coaxial filter technology for DTV showcasing on CCBN 2011

Shanghai, March 16, 2011 - Radio Frequency Systems (RFS), the global wireless and broadcast infrastructure specialist, will appear at the 19th China Content Broadcasting Network Exhibition (CCBN2011), held from 23 to 25 March, 2011 at the China International Exhibition Center (CIEC) in Beijing. At the exhibition, RFS will demonstrate its latest PeakPower+™ coaxial filter technology innovated for digital TV. RFS’ solutions for triple-play convergence, a key theme in modern broadcast, will also be on show. At the same time, RFS will showcase the world-leading HELIFLEX® air-dielectric coaxial cables and the advanced tailored RF switch-frames which is built in the digital RF monitoring function.

Handling the high peak power requirements of digital TV with RFS PeakPower+™
At CCBN 2011, RFS will officially showcase PeakPower+TM coaxial filters for the first time in China.

Digital TV’s peak power handling capacity has been the one of main technology bottlenecks of digital television networks’ development. The peak power level of DTV is considerably higher than that of traditional analog television transmitters, which can translate into real-world problems for transmitting equipment.

“RFS’ PeakPower+TM coaxial filters allow DTV to be transmitted at higher peak power levels and consume less space than previous solutions, compared to the traditional larger and costlier waveguide combiner technology,”, says Kimbo Zeng, Broadcast Product Manager for RFS in China. “As a result, broadcasters can expect fewer system shutdowns and increased revenue through the safe addition and diversification of digital channels and services within their existing infrastructure.”

Supporting triple-play convergence and broadcast mobile TV in China
Triple-play convergence has been a major trend for China’s broadcasting industry. To catch up this trend, CCBN2011 brings the theme of promoting the triple-play convergence, sharing the broadcasting future, and providing innovation, integration and service.

With triple-play convergence, mobile TV has undoubtedly become the focus of an industry-wide convergence between mobile carriers, broadcasters, infrastructure owners and content providers.

“RFS’ future-proof RF solutions are compatible with the full range of mobile TV broadcast technology choices, and is readily harnessed to boost infrastructure owners’ and broadcaster’s activities in the new digital era,” Zeng says.

Leading RF innovations for broadcast
RFS will also bring to CCBN2011 its world-leading HELIFLEX® series of air-dielectric coaxial cables and a set of tailored RF switchframe and monitoring system.

RFS is the original and leading manufacturer of coaxial transmission lines in the world. RFS’ HELIFLEX air-dielectric coaxial cables series is available in a wide range of sizes (3/8-inch to 9-inch diameter), supporting all analog and digital television, radio, and mobile television/media applications.

“HELIFLEX’s electrical performance is unsurpassed, delivering consistently low VSWR across the entire broadcast band, and low attenuation performance; moreover, it is one of the few flexible feeder cables that can support the high-power requirements of multiple broadcast services,” Zeng concludes.

Another RFS innovation at the show, the RF switching and monitoring system is a tailored, real-time, addressable system. A key element is the unique RFS Rapid Release U-Link System, a modular, scalable system that allows switching to be completed in seconds. With a digital RF monitoring system built into the switch-frames, it can allow digital monitoring of output coaxial equipment parameters (such as power and VSWR).

RFS welcomes you to CCBN
