RFS ‘injects’ WiMAX indoors

RF technology leader, Radio Frequency Systems (RFS), has announced the latest addition to its wireless indoor solutions (WINS) suite—the WiMAX injector/diplexer. Complementing RFS’s ClearFill ‘Line’ solution set, the RFS WiMAX injector allows users to combine WiMAX with existing 2G, 3G, WiFi and WLAN services, all on a single indoor wireless communications network or distributed antenna system (DAS). Inherently broadband up to 6GHz, the RFS ClearFill WiMAX injector delivers unmatched flexibility and electrical performance at WiMAX frequencies. 

“The RFS ClearFill WiMAX injector has been developed to support licensed and unlicensed WiMAX bands in 3.3 to 3.7GHz and 5.2 to 5.8GHz. These WiMAX applications can easily be combined with other services in 0.08 to 2.7GHz,” said Peter Raabe, RFS Director Product Management for WINS. “It is the extremely broad frequency range, unrivalled flexibility and performance capabilities of the RFS WiMAX injector that make it the most efficient method of combining the full gamut of wireless communications services.” 

The RFS WiMAX injector/diplexer is small and lightweight in design, and features three separate input/output ports that, when used in various combinations, can support all WiMAX bands. Optimised to deliver premium electrical performance, the WiMAX injector boasts a typical insertion loss value of only 0.2dB--essentially undetectable. Bracket attachments and pre-tapped mounting holes allow straightforward installation on most surfaces and cable tray.  

According to Raabe, the WiMAX injector is an essential component of any modern wireless indoor network. “The WiMAX injector can be included as part of a greenfield indoor installation, or easily retrofitted to existing broadband wireless indoor networks to provide broadband WiMAX functionality,” he said.  

In addition to the WiMAX injector/diplexer, RFS’s WiMAX-ready ClearFill Line wireless indoor solutions suite includes broadband transmission line (CELLFLEX transmission line, RADIAFLEX RLKD flat-foil radiating cable, RADIAFLEX RCF radiating cable); ultra-broadband omni indoor antenna (0.69 to 6.4GHz); 86mm-diameter indoor antenna for wireless data services (2.4 to 5.9GHz); and ultra-broadband two-way and four-way power dividers (0.35 to 6.0GHz). 

“The RFS ClearFill Line system is easily integrated with WiMAX customer premises equipment (CPE), and provides coverage for small and mid-sized buildings at a remarkably low cost per unit area, with zero maintenance,” said Raabe. “The WiMAX injector extends the functionality of the RFS CLearFill Line solution, simplifying the delivery of WiMAX services to indoor wireless communications networks.”
