RFS brings RADIAFLEX®, the world’s leading “leaky feeder” cable solution, to TETRA World Congress 2011

Budapest (Hungary) May 13, 2011 – At TETRA World Congress 2011 (May 24-27 in Budapest), Radio Frequency Systems (RFS), the global wireless and broadcast infrastructure specialist, will showcase its RADIAFLEX family of radiating cables, including its new series of ultra-wideband radiating cables. RFS’ RADIAFLEX radiating cables act as distributed antennas, allowing transportation operators to scale and tailor radio frequency (RF) coverage in even the most challenging metro, rail and road tunnels and indoor environments.

Highly reliable and available communications in tunnels and indoor environments is a mission-critical necessity for transportation operators. RADIAFLEX is designed to provide high-quality Terrestrial Trunked Radio (TETRA) communications in these challenging environments at all times. Slots in the copper outer conductor allow a controlled portion of the internal RF energy to be radiated into the surrounding environment. Conversely, a signal transmitted near the cable will couple into the slots and be carried along the cable length.

RFS offers the widest range of radiating cables in the industry, with different series and sizes optimized for a variety of applications, including heavy-duty applications, in-vehicle applications and applications where small bending radii are required. The cables feature RFS’ patented “higher order mode suppression technique” in radiating cable design. This unique design ensures highly efficient spectrum use to minimize total cost of ownership and ensure operators can support future requirements. With RADIAFLEX, a single RF wideband radiating cable can be used for multi-service, multi-operator and multi-band applications.

RFS is the only global supplier of radiating cables to support different radiation polarizations. This means the cables can be installed in any position relative to the receive antenna location. As a result, transportation operators can tailor system design for specific applications. All RADIAFLEX cables are low-smoke and halogen-free to meet major international flame- and fire-retardancy standards.

For TETRA applications in the 400 MHz and 800 MHz frequency ranges, RFS offers a range of radiating cable types that are optimized for operation below 1 GHz. For example, the RADIAFLEX RAY and RLK families support simultaneous operation of mission-critical services in FM, VHF, DAB, UHF/TETRA 400, DVB, TETRA 800 and GSM-Rail (GSM-R) as well as commercial radio services such as GSM 900 and LTE 700.

The newest addition to the RADIAFLEX family, RAYS158, includes RFS innovations to support the introduction of 4G LTE wireless networks. Designed for broadband applications in the 75 MHz to 2700 MHz range, the RAYS158 cable supports simultaneous operation of services across 2G, 3G and 4G LTE networks. The cable also offers superior electrical performance in the 610 MHz to 2700 MHz range. Because it is designed for broadband, a single RADIAFLEX radiating cable can support multiple communications systems.
   
RADIAFLEX cables are the choice of leading transportation operators and have been deployed in major metro, rail and road tunnels around the globe. In China, where RFS holds at least 50 percent of the in-tunnel wireless coverage market, RADIAFLEX has been deployed in numerous high-profile projects, including the Beijing Metro, the Shanghai Metro and the Ningbo-Taizhou-Wenzhou railway. The new RADIAFLEX cable has already been selected for a major rail communications project in the Asia Pacific region.
