RFS Announces 2x4 Low-Inductance HYBRIFLEX Remote Radio Head Cabling Solution

Meriden, CT (United States), 14th of April, 2015 – Radio Frequency Systems (RFS), a global wireless and broadcast infrastructure specialist, today announced its new, 2x4 6AWG Low-inductance HYBRIFLEX™ Remote Radio Head (RRH) cable for sites over 400 ft. It features a special type of wiring to reduce overall cable inductance, solving the problem of RRH power-cycling during peak traffic hours due to voltage swings, which may occur in specific instances.

HYBRIFLEX combines optical fiber and DC power in a single lightweight corrugated cable, which makes it faster, easier and more cost-effective to install than bringing both traditional optical fiber and DC power to the antenna. The new 2x4 cable combines bend-insensitive single-mode fiber (4 pairs of DLC connectors), 2 pairs of low-inductance DC wires, and 5 pairs of 18AWG wires used to carry alarm signals. The package also includes a special RFS-designed DC insulating sleeve, used to properly protect and insulate the DC wires after stripping the jacket, avoiding possible short-circuits while wiring it to the distribution boxes. In addition to a wide variety of specialized tools for HYBRIFLEX™, standard 7/8” CELLFLEX® accessories and tools can be used with HYBRIFLEX cable.

HYBRIFLEX low-inductance cables are also available in a 6x12 6AWG model. Sites over 400 ft. are expected to carry higher volume this year than ever before, and RFS’ new 2x4 cable offers those sites the same low-inductance benefits as the earlier 6x12 models. On average, RFS low-inductance cables have 30 percent better inductance than other products on the market.

“RFS new 2x4 low-inductance HYBRIFLEX cable enables telecommunications operators to offer improved connectivity that will not be compromised by power fluctuations,” said Rodrigo Oliveira, Global Product Line Manager, ISR HYBRIFLEX FTTx Solutions. “We’re pleased to offer a new solution that will help them keep up with increasing demand for high-speed data transmission and provide state-of-the-art communications technology to their customers.”
