Plug and play with RFS WLAN kit

To address the needs of the emerging wireless local area network (WLAN) market, global wireless solutions provider Radio Frequency Systems (RFS) will launch its unique radiating cable-based ‘WLAN kit’ at the CommunicAsia2004 exhibition. Designed for ‘plug and play’ connectivity to all commercially available 2.4-GHz radio access points (RAP), RFS’s WLAN kit provides a solution for precisely controlling in-building WLAN coverage.

“Radiating cable provides smooth coverage to both sides along the cable run, as opposed to an omni point antenna, for which the radiation pattern has a constant radius,” said Chris Wilson, RFS Area Product Manager for wireless distributed communication systems. “This means the radiating cable WLAN coverage can be contoured with the shape of the building to provide signal only where it is required, resulting in a greater overall coverage area per access point, plus more control over network security and co-channel interference.”

The main component of RFS’s WLAN kit (model WLAN-RCF12KIT) is a 50-metre length of RADIAFLEX RCF 1/2-inch foam dielectric radiating cable, pre-fitted with an N-male connector and termination cap at respective ends. If an existing RAP has SMA or TNC connectors, optional adaptors are available.

Also included within the kit are comprehensive installation instructions designed for information technology (IT) network operators and system integrators, who may be unfamiliar with RF cable installation techniques. To further streamline installation, the selected RFS RADIAFLEX RCF cable features a corrugated outer conductor that allows a high bending radius, making it particularly easy to handle.

The new WLAN Kit will be a feature of the RFS stand at the CommunicAsia2004 exhibition: Hall 3, Stand No. 3E2-01, Singapore Expo, Singapore, 15 to 18 June 2004.
